Appetite for Mobile Product Barcode Scanning Grows
Google recently unveiled the 50 winners of the Android Developer Challenge ‘Phase I’, and "Android Scan", by Jeffrey Sharkey, has been selected.
Android Scan is an application that finds pricing and metadata for anything with a barcode. It stands out with a smart integration to major e-commerce engines covering a dozen stores; both online and brick+mortar, with various purchasing options.
Yet the prototype currently works with a connected high resolution camera, which delivers better quality pictures than most camera phone optics.
Enabling such applications with a standard camera phone camera is exactly what we are doing with our one-click bar code decoding technology, currently in pilot testing phase. Our proprietary image processing technology restores and decodes blurred 1D bar code images shot from a camera phone that could not be decoded by available decoders, and enables virtually any camera phone model available in the market to ‘read’ 1D bar codes.
